The Power of ReferralsGeneral ·
With income tax season upon us, like many Canadian small business owners, I spent the weekend organizing my records and receipts for my accountant. I decided to stop for a few minutes to look at some “year over year” comparisons, and it really struck me how many times the same names, or the close family and the friends of those same names, appeared on my cooking calendar year after year after year.
I have always known it is important to have a strong referral network in place when you work for yourself, but just how important never seemed so clear until this weekend. I found an example of one family using our service twice, their close friends using us twice and their adult children using us twice, all in about 18 months. Happily, this case isn’t even that unique; I found several overlapping friends of friends of friends…
To everyone who has asked us to be part of their personal, family or corporate celebrations, we thank you. It was our pleasure to contribute to the fun and we hope we were able to make the party memorable for years to come.
To everyone who has recommended us to their family and friends over the years, we thank you as well. Small businesses like mine have very limited advertising and promotional budgets, and a positive review from a past customer carries tremendous influence, far more than a Google or Facebook ad.
P.S. Be sure to look for the open cooking dates in our next newsletter, due out at the end of the month. Several clients have requested dates for their ‘significant birthdays’ already. If you have a special day in mind please contact me as soon as you can to avoid disappointment.
