Christmas in August? Yes, really?

Having just come in from three hours outside working in my 30C garage, the last thing on my mind was taking bookings for Christmas 2013. Then I remembered it seemed like it was yesterday that it was a very hot day in May and I was taking bookings for August. Time sure does fly when you’re having fun!

Like last year, I expect every open cooking date in November and December to fill up, with the weekend dates to booking first. As per our policy, open dates will be reserved on a first-come first-served basis, so please let us know as soon as you can if there are any special dates that you prefer. This has been our busiest year ever, and I expect that this trend will continue into the holiday season.

The end of summer also means the annual Burlington Ribfest on the Labour Day weekend. We usually attend on the Sunday with a group, but this year we thought we might try the new “VIP experience”, after all it promised “VIP seating” and “the chance to try ribs from every ribber”…

But not really…we asked for more details as we planned to bring 11 people, but what it really means is for your $20 VIP fee there will be “some” seating, not chairs for everyone and “the chance to try ribs from every ribber” actually means you gets 2 two single rib samples. There’s an added fee to sample more ribs, of course.

I admire the work the Rotary does, and truly I hope they rethink this particular idea to avoid the disappointment from attendees who rightly expected much more for their $20 VIP fee ($30 on Saturday!). I think we’ll take a pass this year and do our own “ribfest” instead.
